Iowa and Nebraska placed under flood watch due to heavy rain
Flood watches have been issued for large portions of Iowa and eastern Nebraska as heavy rainfall is expected to cause flash and river flooding. The weather event is projected to unfold from Tuesday evening through Thursday night.
Forecasters anticipate widespread rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, with some areas potentially receiving more than 5 inches. Because soils are already saturated from recent rain, there is a high risk of runoff into streets, creeks, and larger rivers. In south-central Nebraska, some communities may see an additional 3 to 5 inches of rain following significant totals recorded last week.
Impacted areas include major cities such as Des Moines, Ames, Waterloo, Sioux City, Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs. Travelers in these regions are advised to prepare for wet highways, ponding on roads, and potential closures at low-water crossings.
