Iowa faces flood warnings and heavy rainfall through the week

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the East Nishnabotna River at Red Oak in Montgomery County, Iowa. Minor flooding is expected to begin late Tuesday afternoon, with the river forecasted to reach a crest of 19.7 feet just after midnight before falling below flood stage by late Thursday morning.

Broad weather concerns persist across Iowa as rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected to continue through the week and into the weekend. Forecasters warn that repeated heavy rain could lead to flash flooding and river flooding as soil becomes saturated. While central and southern Iowa face immediate threats, a more widespread risk of severe weather is anticipated from Friday into Saturday.
