Iowa Hawkeyes defeat Iowa State 16-13 in Cy-Hawk rivalry
No. 21 Iowa defeated Iowa State 16-13 in the annual Cy-Hawk rivalry game at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday night. The victory, which ended Iowa’s two-game losing streak against the Cyclones, was secured by kicker Caden Buhr, who converted a 42-yard field goal with only 15 seconds remaining in the contest.
Buhr, a second-year player, accounted for all of Iowa’s scoring with three field goals of 45, 32, and 42 yards. Iowa quarterback Hank Brown contributed a rushing touchdown and completed 21 of 30 passes for 191 yards. The Hawkeyes' defense held Iowa State to just nine first downs and prevented them from scoring in the final 25 minutes of play.
Iowa State had previously held a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, but Iowa managed to tie the game before halftime. The game concluded following a brief replay review regarding the clock; although a pass appeared to expire, officials determined one second remained, but Iowa State was unable to execute a snap due to being out of timeouts.
