Ipê trees bloom across Brazil during severe dry season

Native ipê trees are blooming across various Brazilian regions despite severe dry seasons. In Goiânia, white ipês (Tabebuia roseoalba) are flowering in parks and plazas. This species sheds its leaves before blooming to conserve water, a process that can last up to five days.

In the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso, pink and yellow ipês are also providing color amidst extreme drought conditions. The National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) reports relative humidity levels in Mato Grosso as low as 10% to 17%, comparable to the Sahara Desert. These flowering trees play a vital role in the ecosystem by providing nectar for pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds during the arid months.
