Iphan authorizes partial resumption of São Paulo metro works

The National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan) has issued recommendations for the manual excavation and rescue of archaeological findings discovered during the construction of the 14 Bis-Saracura station on São Paulo's Line 6-Orange metro.

The findings, located in what is referred to as Area 6 of the Saracura/Vai-Vai Archaeological Site, include masonry structures, drainage systems, foundations, and floor fragments. Technical interpretations suggest these remains may be linked to Afro-diasporic religious practices and sacred sites.

Iphan's decision allows the concessionaire, Linha Uni, to resume engineering activities in other parts of the construction site that are not directly affected by the archaeological zone. While the specific area containing the findings remains isolated and blocked from construction, Iphan stated there is no impediment to the continuity of work on other fronts of the project, provided that archaeological monitoring and existing conditions are maintained.
