IPOB alleges assassination plot against detained leader Nnamdi Kanu and reasserts Biafra independence push

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) said a coordinated plot aims to eliminate its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, after entrepreneur Chigozie Nnabugwu allegedly called for Kanu’s execution on a television programme. IPOB described the remarks as "dangerous" and threatened legal action against News Central Television, the broadcaster, and several individuals, including Reno Omokri, for defamation.

In a separate statement, IPOB reiterated that restoring an independent Biafra remains the only lasting solution for the region’s security and human‑rights concerns. The group thanked Israel’s Knesset delegation for its support and highlighted strategic ties with Israel and the United States as part of its diplomatic outreach. IPOB denied any involvement in regional insecurity, attributing violence to government‑linked militias following Kanu’s 2021 extradition.

Both statements were issued by IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, emphasizing the group’s resolve to protect its leadership and pursue self‑determination for Biafra’s minority communities.
