IPOB threatens 2027 election boycott over Nnamdi Kanu appeal delay

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigerian Federal Government, demanding the immediate listing and hearing of the appeal for detained leader Nnamdi Kanu. Mazi Chris Nwaogu, identified as the Head of the Fourth Administration of IPOB's Directorate of State (DOS), accused the government of deliberately delaying appellate proceedings by failing to file a respondent's brief.

IPOB warned that if the government does not act within the two-week period, the group may mobilize to boycott the 2027 general elections across the South-East and other areas of Biafraland. Nwaogu stated, “A government that cannot face its Court of Appeal has no right to demand our votes.”

In addition to the legal ultimatum, IPOB announced it has completed a fundraising exercise to support the welfare, legal, and medical expenses of Kanu and other detainees. The group also expressed continued support for the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
