IPOB threatens election boycott in Biafraland over Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a warning that it will enforce a total boycott of upcoming elections across Biafraland unless its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is immediately and unconditionally released. Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, representing the organization’s Directorate of State, stated that the boycott remains a promise rather than a threat, contingent upon Kanu’s appeal being heard by the appropriate court.

IPOB also highlighted renewed engagement with Catalan representatives in Spain, noting that its members attended an annual festival in Catalonia. The group described this as a continuation of political relationships established by Kanu in 2014.

Separately, the organization has scheduled its annual Day of Atonement for 21 September 2026. This tradition involves fasting, confession, and prayer, serving as a spiritual and moral reset for the movement while honoring the memory of the Biafran War.
