IPS Paraguay expands medical logistics and addresses drug shortages

The Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS) in Paraguay has implemented several measures to address logistical and administrative challenges within its healthcare network.

To bolster medical logistics, the IPS has deployed four specialized vehicles to distribute medicines, serums, and sanitary supplies. These routes include coverage for the Itapúa region, internal transfers within the Parque Sanitario to the Hospital Central, and distribution in the Central Area, including Luque and Capiatá.

On the administrative front, the IPS is facing labor tensions. While the institution is conducting a contest to fill over 1,000 permanent vacancies for health and administrative staff, the union Sinadips has criticized the move. The union argues the number of positions is insufficient to cover its estimated 11,000 contracted workers and has called for better salary conditions for nursing staff.

Additionally, the IPS Administration Council has approved the acquisition of Oxaliplatino 100 mg injectable to address a months-long shortage of this oncology medication. The approval allows for the reception of an alternative brand and manufacturer different from the one originally awarded to Libra Paraguay SA, though a specific timeline for availability has not yet been established.
