In the Boquerón region, the Hospital de Loma Plata has suspended services for IPS patients after its economic quota was exhausted, leaving approximately 23,400 members in the area facing significant geographic barriers to care.

To address critical specialist shortages in the Caaguazú Department, IPS President Isaías Fretes has proposed a legislative amendment to allow the re-hiring of retired doctors, specifically targeting needs for anesthesiologists, traumatologists, and surgeons at the Coronel Oviedo Hospital. Fretes also acknowledged that shortages in medications for chronic diseases are tied to the institution’s current economic difficulties, though he committed to seeking resources for improved medical equipment and services.
