IPS President proposes hiring retired doctors in Coronel Oviedo

Isaías Fretes, president of the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS), has proposed a legislative amendment to allow the re-hiring of retired doctors to address specialist shortages at the Coronel Oviedo Hospital in the Caaguazú Department.

During a visit to the facility, Fretes noted that while the hospital's infrastructure is adequate compared to other regional centers, there is a critical need for more anesthesiologists, traumatologists, and surgeons. He emphasized the value of the vast experience held by retired professionals.

Fretes also addressed patient concerns regarding the insufficient supply of medications for chronic diseases, attributing the shortage to current economic difficulties within the social security institution. He committed to seeking resources to improve medical services and equipment, including the acquisition of a C-arm for orthopedic surgeries.
