iQiyi faces scrutiny over AI-generated films using actors' likenesses

Chinese streaming platform iQiyi has proposed an AI tool that can generate films using real celebrities’ faces, a development that has drawn discontent from actors about the use of their images by AI.

At iQiyi’s World Conference, vice-president Liu Wenfeng stated that more than 100 celebrities had joined the platform to collaborate with AI-content creators who want to use their images in generated works.

The announcements illustrate tensions between AI-enabled entertainment tools and actors’ image rights, as the company promotes new approaches to content while critics raise concerns about consent and use of likenesses.
