Iquitos school officials released following student's death

A court in Maynas has ordered the release of school director Elías Grandez Zegarra and teacher Alfred Chilcho Saavedra, who are under investigation following the death of an 18-year-old student in Iquitos. The student, Taylor Segundo Yaicate Ricopa, died after a concrete structure collapsed at the Petronila Perea de Ferrando school.

The educators face charges including involuntary manslaughter, negligent injury, endangering a dependent person, and abuse of authority. Both will remain under restricted appearance during the legal process.

The victim's father has expressed strong opposition to the judicial decision, alleging that teachers forced students to participate in the demolition of an inactive elevated tank. Prosecutors are currently gathering testimonies from approximately 40 students and conducting technical inspections to determine responsibility for the collapse.
