Iran accused of providing advanced military support to Houthi rebels

Reports indicate that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is providing significant military assistance to the Houthi movement in Yemen. This support reportedly includes training, intelligence, tactical guidance, and targeting assistance for drone and missile attacks.

According to reports citing intelligence assessments, Iranian Mahan Air flights have been used to ferry IRGC paramilitary officers, drone components, missile guidance systems, and impact detonators to the Houthis. This assistance has contributed to the Houthis' ability to conduct sophisticated strikes against Saudi Arabian infrastructure, including an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 13 people.

The Houthis have also utilized this support to expand their control over Yemen’s Red Sea coastline and the strategic Bab al-Mandeb strait. While the Saudi-led coalition has confirmed the presence of an external state actor providing advanced technology, Iran has rejected accusations of interfering in Yemen’s internal affairs, maintaining that the Houthis operate independently.
