British detainee Craig Foreman's prison term extended by two years in Iran

British couple Craig and Lindsay Foreman, arrested in January 2025 while on a round‑the‑world motorcycle journey through Iran, were sentenced in February 2026 to ten years in prison on espionage charges they deny. In July 2026 the Iranian court added a further two‑year term to Craig Foreman's sentence, reportedly because he spoke to the media from Evin prison. The family says he was taken before a judge without a lawyer, translator or chance to defend himself.

The Foremans have been on hunger strike since May, with Craig on his 68th day and Lindsay on her 59th, losing significant weight and suffering health deterioration. Their son and spokesperson, Joe Bennett, described the extension as a “flagrant abuse of basic rights.” The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said it is “urgently following up” with Iranian authorities, and the British government has appointed a special envoy for detained Britons. UN experts have called the detention arbitrary and the couple’s legal team has lodged a complaint with the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
