Iran retirees protest economic hardship and pension issues

Retirees and pensioners across several Iranian cities, including Shush, Ahvaz, Dezful, Isfahan, Kermanshah, and Tehran, have held street protests to demand improvements to their living conditions.

In Khuzestan Province, demonstrators gathered in temperatures exceeding 50°C to protest inadequate pensions, soaring inflation, and the deterioration of essential public services. Protesters expressed frustration that their pensions often only cover a fraction of their monthly expenses. In addition to economic grievances, many participants voiced opposition to government corruption and the diversion of national resources toward military and regional policies.

In Tehran, retirees and veterans associated with Iran Air (Homa) gathered at the company's headquarters. They are demanding immediate resolutions regarding the company's health insurance fund and the implementation of legal regulations concerning the transfer of the Homa pension fund. They called on the government and relevant ministries to finalize the necessary executive regulations to ensure their legal and acquired rights are protected.
