Iran and Oman reach preliminary agreement on Strait of Hormuz routes

Iran and Oman have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement regarding new shipping routes and service fees in the Strait of Hormuz. According to a spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both nations have provided positive feedback on a proposal that is currently in an advanced stage of development.

Despite this regional progress, Iran maintains that the reopening of the strait depends on negotiations with the United States. Tehran has issued a set of conditions for resolving the conflict, which include the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade, the withdrawal of American military forces from the region, the removal of sanctions, and the release of frozen assets.

While some observers suggest these demands represent a new escalation, others note they largely repeat terms from previous understandings. Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command has stated that its naval blockade remains in full effect.
