Iran and Russia respond to U.S. rejection of Strait of Hormuz proposals

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran is awaiting final positions from mediators following reactions to its proposals. Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and advancing negotiations have been clearly communicated to mediators and conveyed to the United States. He noted that while an initial reaction was received from U.S. President Donald Trump, the Iranian government is waiting for definitive feedback through intermediaries to make further decisions.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the United States' rejection of Tehran’s proposals, describing the move as “clumsy.” Lavrov suggested that both nations could return to the Islamabad Memorandum, which he characterized as a fair agreement signed at the highest level. He also commented on the lack of executive capacity in UN Security Council resolutions and expressed concerns regarding NATO’s influence in Southeast Asia.
