Iran and Pakistan agree to energy trade working groups

Iran and Pakistan have agreed to establish specialized working groups to advance major energy trade agreements. Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Pakistani Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi met to discuss mutual interests in the energy sector.

The two nations intend to utilize their shared land border to expand energy cooperation. Under the new framework, expert teams from both countries will travel to Islamabad and Tehran to finalize discussions. Paknejad noted that Iran has the capacity to meet Pakistan’s needs for petroleum products.

Additionally, the ministers reviewed proposals for a pipeline project intended to export Iranian natural gas to Pakistan. Expert groups will conduct detailed technical discussions to move the gas cooperation project forward.
