Iran-Armenia regional trade corridor development

Overview

Iranian and Armenian officials have agreed to develop a new regional transport corridor intended to link the Persian Gulf with the Black Sea. This project aims to create a direct trade route through the South Caucasus to enhance regional economic integration and reduce reliance on existing routes.

During high-level meetings between Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and Armenia’s Ministry of Economy, officials discussed the strategic importance of the corridor for both freight and passenger traffic. To move toward construction, participants noted that challenges regarding infrastructure financing, regulatory harmonisation, and border-crossing procedures must be addressed. If implemented, the corridor is expected to serve as a logistics hub, increasing trade volumes and providing alternative pathways for goods to reach European markets.
