Iran and US Hold First Monitoring Meeting in Doha on MOU Implementation

Iran's deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that the first meeting of the joint monitoring team for the Iran‑U.S. memorandum of understanding was held in Doha, attended by officials from Iran, the United States, Qatar and Pakistan. The talks focused on operationalizing the clauses that end the war in Lebanon and on releasing the roughly $6 billion of Iranian assets frozen in Qatar. Participants agreed to set up an urgent communication channel to log any alleged violations of the agreement and discussed technical procedures for using part of the funds to purchase goods needed by Iran.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance praised the negotiations as progressing positively but warned that any Iranian attempt to restart a nuclear program or target ships would alter U.S. calculations. Qatar facilitated the discussions, including contacts with its central bank, while Pakistan took part in the broader oversight framework.
