Iran blacklists 77 vessels in the Strait of Hormuz

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority has released an updated blacklist of 77 vessels accused of violating Iranian protocols in the Strait of Hormuz. The authority warned that these ships face transit restrictions, including potential fines, arrests, or seizures. Furthermore, any vessels cooperating with the blacklisted ships will also be added to the list.

In a warning issued via X, the authority advised insurance companies, P&I clubs, and shipbrokers to avoid providing services to these vessels to prevent consequences arising from transacting with them. This development comes amid heightened concerns regarding global energy supplies following recent attacks on oil transport routes in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb.

Preliminary vessel tracking data indicates that commercial ship transits through the Strait of Hormuz dropped to single digits per day over the weekend, falling significantly below the ten-day average of 14. These figures may not account for vessels that navigated the strait with their satellite-based automatic identification systems turned off.
