Iranian courts sentence dozens to death over Dec 2024 Isfahan protests

More than 70 detainees linked to the Di 1404 (December 2024) protests in Isfahan have received death sentences, with at least 26 placed in solitary quarantine cells and facing imminent execution. Families report threats and pressure to silence them, and some prisoners briefly halted a hunger strike after severe intimidation.

Among those sentenced is 22‑year‑old rapper Mehnaam Navab‑Safavi, convicted of "enmity against God" and other charges for his involvement in the protests. Separately, a prisoner in Ilam, identified as Iradj Abrahamzadeh, was executed, while two other death‑row inmates in Arak and Tehran were spared after their families consented to reconciliation agreements.

The convictions stem from nationwide unrest that began on 7 December 2024, which saw thousands killed or injured and mass arrests across Iran.
