Iran Challenges U.S. Low‑Intensity Warfare Doctrine During Ceasefire Negotiations

Iran says the United States must ensure an Israeli cease‑fire and withdrawal from Lebanon as a condition for extending the 60‑day cease‑fire between the United States and Iran. Talks involving the United States, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar began in Switzerland on 21 June. Iran warned that failure to meet the memorandum could reduce oil and gas supplies and trigger a broader regional conflict involving Israel, the United States and Iran from Lebanon to the Persian Gulf.

Iran links the current diplomatic effort to the United States’ long‑standing “low‑intensity conflict” doctrine, which it says has guided U.S. actions in the Middle East since the 1980s.
