Iran claims strategic victory over the United States in Gulf conflict

Iranian leaders say they have achieved a strategic win against the United States and Israel after months of bombing, a naval blockade and sustained missile and drone production. They argue the United States failed to halt Iran’s ability to strike a key artery of the global economy and that the war has weakened American influence in the Middle East.

U.S. President Donald Trump has offered shifting assessments of the war, first describing it as a brief excursion, then proclaiming total and complete victory, before later warning of a potential economic depression at a G7 summit in mid‑June and signing a memorandum with Iran. At the same summit he reiterated that he never pursued regime change in Tehran. The new generation of Iranian officials, described as more nationalist and pragmatic, say their success will usher in a new regional order that could reshape global balances for years to come.
