Iran claims US compliance with Islamabad MoU is key to regional stability

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that regional stability depends on the United States returning to its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In a telephone conversation with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, Araghchi attributed current regional tensions to Washington’s failure to adhere to the agreement, suggesting that US compliance is the key to normalizing the situation.

Araghchi also provided updates on maritime security negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He reported significant progress toward establishing a temporary transit route through the strait, noting that consultations continue regarding future management mechanisms.

Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi expressed deep concern over the ongoing exchanges of attacks between the US and Iran. He urged both nations to resume negotiations immediately to prevent further escalation and called for restraint to avoid a prolonged deadlock.
