Iran condemns US 'Operation Economic Outcast' as economic terrorism

The Iranian government has condemned the United States' 'Operation Economic Outcast' as 'economic terrorism' and a violation of international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Washington of using the US dollar to pressure nations and infringe upon national sovereignty. The campaign, launched by the US to isolate Iran from the global financial system, targets key sectors including oil, shipping, aviation, gold, technology, and digital assets. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated the campaign aims to isolate Iran, with over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels being blacklisted.

In response to regional pressures, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed a desire to strengthen political and economic ties with Muslim-majority nations, particularly neighbors. Speaking at the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, Araghchi emphasized a policy of unity and cooperation. He noted Iran's readiness to restore relations with Egypt and expressed a desire to develop ties with the Lebanese government, while also calling for expanded relations with African countries.
