Iran considers strikes on US military bases in Europe

Reports from the Financial Times indicate that Iran is considering potential military strikes against United States targets in Europe. These potential actions are viewed as a response should the Trump administration decide to escalate the conflict and strike Iranian infrastructure.

Key strategic locations identified as potential targets include the Bezmer air base in Bulgaria, which supports US tanker operations, and the British military base at Akrotiri in Cyprus. Additionally, Iranian officials have reportedly considered attacking fiber optic submarine cables in the Strait of Hormuz to increase the consequences of a conflict for the US.

Analysis from the Council on Foreign Relations notes that Iran holds the largest ballistic missile arsenal in the Middle East, with long-range vectors capable of reaching approximately 2,000 kilometers. While bases in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean are highly exposed, reaching US installations in Italy would require more uncertain long-range capabilities. NATO has stated it remains prepared to defend all allies against such threats.
