Iran COVID-19 infection rates surpass low-level warning threshold

COVID-19 infection rates in Iran have surpassed the low-level warning threshold. Qobad Moradi, head of the Center for Communicable Disease Management, reported that an increase in cases has been observed over the last three weeks.

Data from the respiratory infection surveillance system indicates that for the week ending August 29, approximately 8.3% of individuals presenting with respiratory symptoms at outpatient or inpatient medical facilities tested positive for COVID-19. This figure exceeds the surveillance system's low-level warning threshold of 5%.

Moradi noted that the current clinical presentation of the virus is similar to endemic COVID-19, with common symptoms including cough, fever, and occasionally gastrointestinal issues. He warned that elderly individuals and those with underlying health conditions may experience more severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath, which could lead to hospitalization. Health officials have advised the public to adhere more strictly to respiratory hygiene practices.
