Iran Customs extends temporary vehicle import deadline

The Iran Customs Administration has issued a new directive extending the temporary import period for passenger vehicles until the end of Azar (late December). This measure applies to personal vehicles brought into the country by Iranians living abroad, travelers using international Carnet de Passages, and foreign investors who have obtained permits from the Foreign Investment Organization.

To reduce bureaucracy, the directive decentralizes the extension process. Local and provincial customs managers are now authorized to approve two-month extensions directly without seeking prior authorization or correspondence with the central headquarters in Tehran. Once local customs verify the necessary documentation and guarantees, they can send the required notification directly to the Rahvar FARAJA traffic police to finalize the license plate extension. This change aims to eliminate lengthy administrative delays that previously required travelers to wait weeks for responses from the capital.
