Iran death sentence for Najmeh Amini sparks human rights concerns
Najmeh Amini, a 23-year-old woman in Iran, has been sentenced to death by a revolutionary court in Mashhad. According to reports, the sentence follows a social media post and carries accusations of blasphemy, specifically “sab ol-nabi” (insulting the prophet).
In an audio message recorded from Mashhad Central Prison, Amini appealed for international attention and justice. She described herself as an innocent woman and requested that lawyers, human rights activists, and United Nations bodies investigate her case. She urged the public not to let her voice be forgotten and expressed a hope to see a free Iran.
The case has drawn criticism regarding the judicial process, noting that Amini faced the sentence without a defense after spending months in legal limbo.
