Iran demands new IAEA protocols for inspecting attacked nuclear facilities
Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, has stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cannot demand inspections of nuclear facilities that have been subject to military attacks until new rules and protocols are established and approved.
Speaking to the IRNA news agency, Eslami noted that Iran follows IAEA safety inspections and regulations for its nuclear activities. He emphasized that all facilities targeted in recent attacks were previously registered with the IAEA and had undergone regular inspections prior to the incidents. Eslami criticized the IAEA for its failure to object to or condemn these attacks, suggesting that such inaction calls the agency’s competence and independence into question.
Eslami further alleged that the United States and Israel are pressuring the IAEA to conduct investigations at the damaged sites. He maintained that a law passed by the Iranian Parliament serves as the legal criterion for these situations, and that the IAEA must first define its responsibilities and the specific protocols for inspecting facilities under current war-like conditions.
