Iran Rejects Claims It Sought Negotiations with United States

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei (also reported as İsmail Bekayi) said Tehran has not requested talks with the United States, dismissing recent speculation as unfounded. He clarified that a meeting held in Mashhad with a Qatari delegation was arranged at the mediator’s invitation, not as an Iranian overture to Washington.

Baghaei reiterated Iran’s “commitment for commitment” stance, warning of reciprocal measures if the United States breaches the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed earlier this year. He accused the U.S. of violating several MOU provisions, citing recent restrictions on Iranian oil sales, new sanctions, military actions and the revocation of oil‑export authorisation.

The spokesman also criticized a UN Security Council session on Iran’s nuclear file, convened by the United States, Britain and France, calling it ineffective and noting that UNSC Resolution 2231 expired in October 2025. He announced that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Oman for high‑level talks on maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz, following technical discussions between Tehran and Muscat.
