Iran sets seven conditions for US to restore regional trust

Iranian officials have outlined seven specific conditions that must be met by the United States to restore trust and resume diplomatic negotiations. These demands, communicated through Qatari mediation during the UN General Assembly, include a ceasefire on all fronts, the lifting of the US naval blockade, the release of frozen Iranian assets, an end to US interference in Iran's internal affairs, and the cessation of military attacks against Iranian territory.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran is prepared to offer diplomacy another chance if Washington demonstrates a sincere desire for a just and honorable solution. He specifically urged the US to return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June, which involved reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the removal of sanctions and the lifting of the naval blockade.

Amidst these diplomatic efforts, tensions remain high. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced a shift toward an “offensive and asymmetrical” military doctrine in response to potential attacks. Meanwhile, US Central Command has claimed that military actions and the naval blockade have significantly impacted Iran's finances, affecting the IRGC's ability to fund regional allies and personnel. Brent crude prices have risen above $110 per barrel due to ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
