Iran detains police colonel amid nationwide retiree protests
Colonel Shahrzad Zamiri, deputy social police of Khorasan Razavi, was arrested after the Di‑month national protests and has been held without trial in Vakilabad prison in Mashhad. Her assets have been seized and she remains denied access to a lawyer.
On the same day, dozens of retiree groups staged demonstrations across Iran, including Social‑Security retirees in Tehran, Shush, Ahvaz and Rasht, and telecommunications retirees in Tehran, Mashhad, Ardabil, Yassuj, Tabriz, Ahvaz, Dezful and Kermanshah. Protesters demanded overdue pension payments, implementation of salary‑adjustment regulations, and the release of detained activists.
Youth job‑seekers in the Boir‑Ahmad region also gathered outside the Lishter refinery and the Gachsaran governorate office, calling for transparent hiring and priority for local workers. The wave of gatherings is part of a reported total of more than 2,500 protests held in Iran during the year.
