Iran Dispatches Chief Negotiator to Oman as US Talks on Hormuz Progress

Iran sent its parliament speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, to Oman to meet Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The visit follows a breakthrough dialogue between Iran and the United States in Switzerland, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, aimed at securing safe navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate statement in Pakistan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that without a ballistic‑missile defence system Iran would be vulnerable to destruction by the United States and Israel, likening it to the fate of Gaza. He declared missile capability a non‑negotiable red line in any talks, underscoring the heightened security stakes surrounding the wider Iran‑U.S. negotiations.
