Iran driving license costs rise to 16 million tomans

The cost of obtaining a driving license in Iran has risen to approximately 16 million tomans, representing a 50 percent increase compared to the previous year. Farhad Haghighi, head of the Driving Schools Union, stated that the hourly rate for driving instruction has reached 600,000 tomans.

Several economic factors are driving these increases, including the rising costs of vehicle maintenance, the high price of spare parts, and general inflation. Haghighi noted that the cost of training is not unusual when compared to the skyrocketing prices of vehicles and essential components, such as tires.

The driving school industry is facing significant operational challenges. A government mandate requiring training vehicles to be replaced every seven years has placed additional financial strain on schools due to high automotive prices. Furthermore, the lack of adequate facilities for fleet modernization and the reduction of fuel subsidies have contributed to the crisis. These economic pressures have reportedly led to the closure of approximately 10 driving centers, impacting an industry that supports roughly 70,000 jobs.
