Iran executes at least 900 people since start of 2026

The Abdorrahman Center for Human Rights in Iran reports that at least 900 people have been executed in Iran since the beginning of 2026. According to the Washington-based organization, 901 executions were documented between January and July, with 28 occurring in August alone.

The report highlights a sharp increase in the use of the death penalty for cases involving national security, drug-related offenses, and ethnic minorities. Of those executed between January and July, at least 56 individuals faced political or national security charges, including 29 linked to public protests and 13 accused of espionage. Drug-related crimes accounted for at least 268 executions.

Ethnic minorities have been disproportionately affected, with at least 98 members of minority groups executed during this period, including 40 Baloch, 29 Kurds, and 21 Afghans. The documentation also includes the execution of 16 women and two individuals who were under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes. Geographically, the highest number of executions occurred in Razavi Khorasan province (95), followed by Isfahan (71) and Alborz (57).
