Iran Executes Protester Arvin Kheirkhah

Iran carried out the execution of 20‑year‑old protester Arvin Kheirkhah at Shahroud prison on 2 August 2026. He had been arrested during the January demonstrations and sentenced by a Revolutionary Court to death on charges of moharebeh, or “waging war against God”. Kheirkhah was moved to solitary confinement on Wednesday before the execution and, in a final conversation with his family, urged them not to forget his struggle for the “liberation of our homeland”.

His execution follows the recent hanging of two other protesters, Amirhossein Safari and Abolfazl Sepahi, in Isfahan’s Alikhani Square, and comes amid warnings from Iran’s former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi that several other detainees remain at risk. United Nations experts have called on Tehran to halt the death sentences, citing concerns over fair‑trial violations and the use of televised confessions.
