Iran execution rates rise amid calls for democratic reform
The No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign has reported that at least 2,230 people were executed in Iran between October 2025 and October 2026. This figure includes 54 women, 47 political prisoners, and four children. The campaign, now in its 142nd week, highlighted recent cases of violence, including the deaths of individuals following arrests and reports of torture.
In response to these developments and the World Day Against the Death Penalty, Loris Resinelli, a member of the Walloon-Brussels regional parliament, expressed support for Iran’s democratic resistance. Resinelli advocated for a secular, democratic republic and emphasized the importance of gender equality and the separation of religion and state. He specifically praised the courage of Iranian women and youth who continue to protest against the current regime despite the risks of arrest and execution.
