Iran focuses on BRICS economic ties and Strait of Hormuz security

Iranian officials are emphasizing the importance of economic diplomacy and regional security. During a meeting with the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed recent developments, including agreements with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's conditions for its reopening.

Parliamentary members highlighted the need for Iran to strengthen economic ties with the East, specifically through BRICS and partnerships with Russia and China. Discussions focused on mitigating the impact of sanctions and maritime blockades by utilizing national currencies or barter mechanisms within the BRICS framework. Strengthening corridors and long-term economic contracts is viewed as a strategic necessity to ensure the import of essential goods and bolster national interests.
