Iran Food and Drug Organization addresses antidepressant shortages

The spokesperson for Iran’s Food and Drug Organization, Mohammad Hashemi, has addressed challenges regarding the supply of certain psychiatric medications, specifically tricyclic antidepressants. He noted that shortages in these drugs are partly due to restrictions on transporting shipments from India.

Hashemi also responded to claims circulating on social media suggesting that various medicines, including those for special patients, could be supplied at prices 10% to 20% lower than current rates. He stated that while the organization is open to reviewing documented proposals that could reduce costs, mere claims on social media are insufficient.

To evaluate such proposals, the organization requires comprehensive documentation, including precise drug lists, manufacturer details, country of origin, valid agency or supply contracts, proforma invoices, final prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules. Hashemi emphasized that any new supply source must strictly adhere to legal, technical, and quality requirements, ensuring the authenticity, stability, and timely delivery of medications.
