Iran Food and Drug Organization addresses medical supplies and food safety claims

The Food and Drug Organization of Iran has addressed recent concerns regarding the supply of medical gloves and allegations of food safety violations.

Regarding medical supplies, spokesperson Mohammad Hashemi stated that the organization is working to ensure a stable supply of medical gloves for healthcare centers. He noted that for four main types of required gloves, one type is not imported at all, while for the other three, imports account for only 10% to 20% of domestic needs, representing approximately one to two months of consumption. The organization aims to prioritize domestic production while using imports as a complementary tool to prevent supply chain disruptions.

On the issue of food safety, Hashemi responded to social media claims alleging that large manufacturing companies are reusing expired dairy products, such as using expired ice cream or juice to produce new frozen treats. He emphasized that while any documented violation will be investigated without leniency, social media videos lacking specific details—such as the names of production units, exact locations, or timestamps—are insufficient to confirm such serious allegations. He urged anyone with verifiable evidence to provide original, untampered files to regulatory authorities for formal investigation.
