Iran Food and Drug Organization clarifies infant formula quota rules
Dr. Shahram Shoaybi, Director General of Natural, Traditional, Supplement, and Infant Formula Affairs at the Food and Drug Organization, has clarified that infant formula quotas are not intended for resale. He stated that the supply of both dietary and non-dietary formulas has remained stable in recent months, with no significant shortages reported despite population movements or travel increases.
To prevent profiteering and ensure products reach actual consumers, a verification system has been implemented. When collecting formula, a code is sent to the individual to confirm they are the infant's parent. Quotas are assigned individually to each infant and cannot be transferred to another child. For infants under six months, quotas are based on typical consumption rates, such as approximately eight bottles per month. This mechanism aims to keep formula within the official supply chain and prevent unauthorized distribution.
