Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Says Peace Chance with US Only 10% as Negotiations Continue

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters that the likelihood of reaching a peaceful settlement with the United States is about ten percent, but Tehran will keep pursuing diplomatic talks to avoid a wider war. He said, "Negotiations have several purposes, and we must not waste the opportunity," emphasizing that even a slim chance must be used.

Araghchi noted that the region’s tension has risen since a joint U.S.-Israel military operation against Iran in February, followed by Iranian missile and drone strikes on Gulf states hosting U.S. assets. Although a Pakistan‑mediated memorandum of understanding briefly halted hostilities, disputes over the Strait of Hormuz have reignited clashes.

The minister added that if negotiations ultimately fail, Iran will still be able to demonstrate to its adversaries, the international community, and its own people that every possible diplomatic avenue was exhausted.
