Iran warns of long-term environmental damage from US and Israeli strikes

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned of severe, long-term environmental consequences resulting from US and Israeli military strikes on Iran’s oil, refinery, and energy infrastructure. Speaking at the ‘Ecocide: A Silent War Crime’ conference in Tehran, Araghchi stated that the destruction of water and soil resources, air pollution, and the loss of ecosystems could persist for decades. He noted that the United Nations Environment Programme has confirmed that fires and the combustion of hydrocarbons from these attacks have released hazardous chemical elements into the atmosphere, which may contaminate soil, water, and the food chain.

In response to the ongoing conflict, US President Donald Trump indicated that the United States could end its military involvement in Iran immediately, provided there is a guarantee that Tehran will not acquire nuclear weapons in the future. He suggested the seven-month conflict might conclude soon but emphasized the necessity of preventing future nuclear threats.

Separately, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, asserted that Iran’s nuclear technology remains secure and cannot be halted by external pressure or military strikes.
