Iran fuel crisis intensifies following new US sanctions

Iran is experiencing an intensifying fuel crisis characterized by severe gasoline and diesel shortages across the country. The scarcity follows a new round of economic sanctions announced by Washington and is exacerbated by war-related damage and difficulties in importing refined petroleum products.

In major cities, drivers report waiting for hours at filling stations, with some individuals sleeping in their vehicles overnight to secure fuel. In Karaj, some stations have reportedly limited individual purchases to approximately 5 liters. The country faces an estimated daily gasoline deficit of 15 million liters (roughly 4 million gallons).

The shortage is particularly acute for truck drivers, who face kilometer-long queues and lost income due to the lack of diesel. While some residents suspect the shortages may be used to prepare public opinion for potential price increases, these claims remain unverified.
