Iran hangs man convicted of espionage for the US and Israel during ongoing war

Iran executed Mojtaba Kian, a man found guilty of sending information about the country's defence‑industry facilities to networks linked to the United States and Israel. The judiciary said Kian provided coordinates and details that aided a strike on a targeted location in Iran during the nearly 40‑day war that began on 28 February after US‑Israeli strikes killed senior Iranian leaders.

The execution, carried out less than 50 days after his arrest, was the first known death penalty for a spying offence committed during the conflict. Kian's assets were also confiscated. Iran, which ranks second worldwide in executions after China, has intensified punishments for espionage and collaboration with Israel and the US since the war started.
