Iran Health Insurance covers infertility treatments and specific medications
Maryam Azadi, Director General of the Office of Specialized and Superspecialized Services of the Health Insurance Organization of Iran, announced that health insurance covers 90 percent of infertility treatment costs in state-run centers and 90 percent of general tariffs in non-governmental public centers. In private sector facilities, the coverage rate for infertility treatment tariffs is 69 percent.
Additionally, 77 types of medications related to infertility treatment are covered at a 90 percent rate. To date, 165,000 individuals have been registered in the health insurance systems to receive infertility treatment services, with 148 medical centers currently under contract.
Regarding patients with special and incurable diseases, over 3 million people are registered in the dedicated fund. The fund covers 133 groups of diseases, 69 of which have service packages issued by the Ministry of Health. These packages include outpatient and inpatient services, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, and medications. For 17 groups of these diseases, inpatient services are provided free of charge in state-run centers.
Currently, half of the Iranian population is covered by health insurance, primarily through the rural insurance fund and coverage for government employees.
