Iran health insurance coverage expansion
Overview
The Iranian Health Insurance Organization has expanded coverage for specialized medical services and chronic diseases. Officials announced that health insurance now covers 90 percent of infertility treatment costs in state-run centers and 69 percent in private sector facilities. Additionally, 77 types of infertility-related medications are covered at a 90 percent rate, with 165,000 individuals registered for these services.
Support for patients with special and incurable diseases has also increased, with over 3 million people registered in a dedicated fund covering 133 groups of diseases. In specific provinces, coverage has seen significant regional implementation: in Bushehr, 15,000 patients have been identified with 240 billion rials allocated for medical expenses, while in Sistan and Baluchestan, approximately 49,000 patients are covered, including support for diabetic, cancer, and infertile patients. In Sistan and Baluchestan, insurance coverage for certain specific medications has reached over 97 percent, and nearly 80 percent of the local population is covered, with a focus on maintaining free care for low-income groups.
